Janice Sperow

Arbitrator, Hearing Officer, Mediator

I have served as an arbitrator in over 650+ cases and as an advocate in over 1000+ arbitrations and as a mediator and Hearing Officer in countless matters. I focus on cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and fairness. In addition to AHLA, I am on the American Arbitration Association's healthcare, life sciences, intellectual property, biotech, and emerging technology specialty panels. I am responsive, timely, well-reasoned, analytically sound, and genuinely neutral. I also manage the proceedings well and respect the parties' joint preferences. I have past and current experience in payor-provider disputes, managed care disputes, medical necessity determinations, level of care issues, LTAC, step down care, placement delay coverage, in all settings, bellwether claim protocol cases, FPAs, pharma disputes, breach of hospital services contract, health care accountability ordinance compliance, the No Surprises Act medical review, and many more health care related disputes. For example, just served as a Hearing Officer for the City & County of San Francisco in a health care regulatory compliance matter (details confidential). Also currently serving as panelist in payor-provider mass claims arbitration and chair of tripartite panel involving 177 providers and 1 respondent payor. Recently served as sole arbitrator in several pharma cases and as an emergency arbitrator handling injunctive relief on an expedited basis for a carrier and its network vendor. Finally, the parties should select me as a neutral because I decide based upon the contract, facts, evidence, and law. I am fair and love what I do, which makes the process more enjoyable and professional.
