Profile

John F. Libby

John F. Libby

I have represented clients in the health care industry since 1995, representing a wide variety of entities, including both providers and payers. I have served as litigation counsel in cases involving claims including contract breaches and business torts; as counsel representing witnesses, subject and targets in state and federal criminal, civil and regulatory investigations and proceedings; and as an advisor on key compliance issues, including False Claims Act compliance. As a result, I have deep knowledge of all aspects of the health care industry, both from the payor and provider sides. I have represented clients in many arbitrations, including those involving contractual and related disputes between payers and providers. As noted above, I have represented both payors and providers in arbitrations and litigation, and thus will not come to an AHLA arbitration with any particular bias for one side or the other. I have completed arbitration training both from AHLA and the ABA, and regularly attend continuing education in the area. I have also mediated dozens of cases as counsel, and am now serving as a mediator, both with the Los Angeles Superior Court (as a settlement officer conducting mandatory settlement conferences) and as a member of the Mediation Panel of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. I have been effective in mediations, both as counsel and as a mediator, in asking the parties to look at their positions from new perspectives, in suggesting creative solutions, and in resolving difficult cases. The combination of my health industry expertise and my approach to resolving disputes will assist parties and their counsel in the AHLA program.
