April Madison-Ramsey
Mediator/Arbitrator
I have spent more than 30 years inside the disputes healthcare organizations actually face — not observing them from the outside, but managing them as in-house counsel with real accountability for the outcome. For six years as Senior University Counsel at Stanford, I managed labor and employment practice for Stanford Health Care, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, Stanford Health Care–Tri-Valley, and affiliated clinics — over 30,000 employees. Before that, I spent thirteen years as Senior Litigation Counsel at Dignity Health, overseeing labor and employment risk across 39 hospitals and 60,000+ employees in California, Arizona, and Nevada. I've negotiated union contracts with SEIU, CNA, NUHW, and AFSCME, represented management in grievance and interest arbitration, conducted Title IX investigations, and guided hospitals through closures under the WARN Act. When a healthcare dispute reaches me, I already understand the institutional pressures on both sides. I also bring operational fluency to every matter. I've facilitated leadership forums resolving staffing and workload disputes between physicians, nursing, APPs, and HR — the conflicts that quietly drain an institution's energy long before they reach a courtroom. I know staffing ratios, credentialing pressures, and clinical realities well enough to see past the pleadings to what's actually driving a dispute. Since founding Madison Legal Solutions in May 2025, my practice has rested on one idea: once litigation starts, parties lose control of the outcome. My approach — "Where Perspective Matters" — means I don't advocate for either side. I listen, communicate clearly, and treat everyone at the table with respect, aiming to resolve disputes efficiently and before they escalate further. I've advised both plaintiff- and defense-side stakeholders and negotiated executive contracts for hospital CEOs and COOs, so I can assess a dispute credibly from every seat in the room. If you need a neutral who moves fluidly between legal rigor and operational reality, that intersection is exactly where my career has been built.
