Caitlin Monjeau

General Counsel

I am a careful listener, a thorough reader, and a practical thinker who strives to come to effective, evidence-based conclusions in my work and in my life. My goal as a neutral is to offer a high-quality process driven by the parties' needs and to issue well-informed awards. I have experience as an attorney representing health care providers, most recently a multi-specialty physician group practice as general counsel. I have broad experience with all facets of the professional practice of ambulatory medicine. Routine matters for me involve interpreting New York and Federal law and regulation in the day-to-day operations of a healthcare company. I am regularly involved in the following internal matters: - Continuously reviewing and managing physician self-referral and antikickback statute issues that arise in professional services agreements, space and equipment leases, and creative proposals generated by internal clients - Hiring, employing, retaining, and terminating physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who may be bound by restrictive covenants, especially in light of the Federal Trade Commission’s final rule concerning non-compete agreements - Negotiating payor contracts as part of a multidisciplinary team - Managing risk for a high-volume physician practice that includes pediatrics, family medicine, internal medicine, radiology, behavioral health care, oncology, surgery, urology, and other specialties - Managing litigation and governance issues for a physician-owned risk retention group regulated by the District of Columbia - Retaining and supervising outside medical malpractice defense counsel and professional discipline counsel - Advising and directing front-line management and human resources concerning recurring employment issues This work is informed by my previous work in private practice as reflected in my resume. I am also an experienced small claims and custody and visitation mediator for a local community dispute resolution center.
