An understanding of the cultural dimensions of people generally is key to understanding what matters to most people. I believe that respectful curiosity is key to dealing fairly with most people. So too is a practice of committed listening to people, crucial to the task of helping disputants manage their disputes, in whatever manner or scope those disputes may arise.
